MCP

Connect an AI assistant to your Perspio data with the Model Context Protocol.

Perspio MCP connects an AI assistant to your Perspio data. Ask about assets, devices, geofences and reports in plain language, and the assistant looks the answer up in Perspio using your own account and permissions.

It's a standard remote Model Context Protocol server, so any MCP-capable tool can connect: Claude, ChatGPT, coding assistants and your own agents.

📘

Coming to the connector directories

Perspio is being added to the Claude and ChatGPT connector directories. Until it's listed, add it as a custom connector using the URL for your region.

Endpoints

RegionURL
AUhttps://talk.perspio.io/mcp
UShttps://us-talk.perspio.io/mcp

Use the endpoint for the region your tenant is hosted in, and name the connection Perspio MCP.

Signing in

Perspio MCP uses OAuth. Your tool opens a Perspio sign-in page, where you sign in with your own Perspio account, the same one you use for the web app, and complete any company sign-in or MFA steps.

You never enter a client ID or client secret. If your tool asks which OAuth identity to use, choose its own published identity.

If your account can reach more than one tenant, select the tenant by name when prompted. If you always work in the same tenant, you can set the connection's tid header to that tenant's ID instead, and you won't be asked again.

What you can ask

AreaWhat the assistant can look up
AssetsFind an asset by name, registration, serial or ID, or describe what you're after in plain language. See its type, status, linked devices, last communication and last recorded location, and current readings such as temperature, ignition and meters.
Asset groupsList the groups you can see, and take a snapshot of a group's assets with the readings you choose.
GeofencesList your tenant's geofences, see which assets were last recorded inside one, and read entry and exit history.
DevicesFind devices by serial, IMEI or model, and see their profile, connectivity and reporting cadence.
ReportsFind report definitions, check what inputs they need, and run a preview for a date range or a current snapshot.
OrganisationConfirm which tenant the connection is working in.

What it won't do

  • It only reads. Perspio MCP looks things up and previews reports. It can't create, change or delete anything. To write to Perspio, use the API Reference.
  • It sees only what you see. Every call is checked against your tenant membership, role and security groups, so the assistant can't reach assets your account can't.
  • Answers come from stored data. Values carry the time they were recorded. A last known location is the most recent fix, not proof of where an asset is right now.

Connect your tool

Any MCP client follows the same four steps.

  1. Add a custom or remote MCP server.
  2. Enter the URL for your region.
  3. Choose OAuth for authentication, and sign in with your Perspio account.
  4. Select your tenant if you're prompted, then enable the connection in a new conversation.

Claude

  1. Open Customize → Connectors.
  2. Select + Add → Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Perspio MCP, and enter the URL for your region.
  4. Review the authentication settings and choose Sign in now.
  5. If asked which OAuth identity to use, choose Use Claude's published identity (Recommended).
  6. Sign in with your Perspio account and return to Claude.
  7. Enable Perspio in a conversation from + → Connectors.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an organisation owner may need to add the connector first. See Claude's custom connector guide.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it Perspio MCP, and enter the URL for your region.
  3. Choose OAuth, review the tools it finds and the connection warning, then create and install the plugin.
  4. Start a new chat, type @, and select the Perspio connection.
  5. Sign in with your Perspio account and select your tenant.

See OpenAI's custom MCP server guide.

Example prompts

Find the vehicle with registration ABC123. Show its asset ID, status, latest recorded location and time, and last communication time. If more than one matches, list them.

For asset in-000123, show the latest temperature and when it was measured, plus the last communication time. Say so if the measurement time is unknown or the reading is old.
